A big "Welcome" to the KIGHTLEY Surname Site from your web host. My name is Doug Kightley, and I've been carrying out research on my family history on and off for some years..in fact, since 2001.

As web resources were not all that good back then, I started by collecting as much data as I could on the KIGHTLEY surname, and then attempted to piece the thousands of bits of data together to hopefully end up with my own family tree. I managed to do so.....but had lots of information and collections of bits of family branches left over that I didn't want to go to waste.

The complete set of data was in a geneology database, so I looked at publishing what I had on a website...which was not that easy to do. Geneology software packages were (and to some degree, still are) terrible at creating an easy to use and searcheable online database...so I created my own site using data extracted from a GEDCOM file that my geneology package could export and published it.

The database held the names and details of events such as births, marriages and deaths, Census details, and other event details. The whole database was searcheable and details of individual families could be displayed in an easy-to-read format that had the means of quickly navigating up and down the tree.

Over the years when I've had some spare time, I've dabbled at filling in missing details, and I've added some Census data as its become available, but have not been able to get out to the various Record Offices to carry out deep research on links where information is missing, etc.

Around 8 years ago, I had to change web suppliers and found that the scripting language I had used for the site was not compatible with the new web hosting, which meant a re-write was needed. Over the past few months, I have eventually been able to get around to re-writing the site......and here it is.
